Humanity in movement

Since many centuries, man found in movement a way to live, discover the world and conquest territories. Filling life with its imagination, he invented methods, process in search of pleasure, easiness, lowering its tireness. With hope and inventions, through science enhancement and progress, he makes his own way to understand, get operational, pushing the limits away. By the way, often in despite of basic security needs in the common sense.

RouesCarrees

Man then, structures machine and mechanics, to serve him. Dealing with materials properties and combination of ambitious research and motivation, he gets all he can from innovation to master the machine.

Human, mastering the world …

First riding animals, then things and machines, human stands on skills, know-how and judgment to manage different ways of moving he has. Testing, accident experimenting, learning lessons from failures, human manages with his own appreciation good behaviours on the long roads and infrastructures available. These ones shows adaptability features, through quick evolutions and needs of powered automotive.

All along education, training and science improvement, man manages machines. He’s the master decider, collects information and drives using all the machine’s capabilities, to experience his own personal trip. Let’s think about all different ways were found in history and in his time: animals, boats, carriers, cycles, coaches then more recently planes, motorbikes and automobile and finally spatial engines. Everything is piloted, monitored, and always driven with human judgments and evaluations. Yes technology helps a lot…But even in automatic piloting (trains, planes, subways…), machine executes human binary orders, through algorithms developed by human teams, in search of best optimization.

Hybriding relation with digital revolution

Digital wave explosion changed life. Daily life. Everybody’s life. But it’s only a mean, not the end. Transformation in the deepest moments of our lives, with tech, tools, apps, datas, in every snap of life. While we want to search information, data, decision making, behave, digital set takes a major role to solve any demand. Speediness and easiness of machines will give us comfort and many “friends” to rely on. This environment modifies even the way we learn and we keep information: while search navigators can find any information in one second, why could we go on learning like in the past? What for? Machine does it tireless, faster and more reliable than us. Fortunately, we still have intuition and emotion…where machine does not. But is it enjoyable in situations that can’t stand failure or approximate judgements?

Soon, human will learn to equal machine through hybrid way: mid human, mid machine with “augmented human”, the one who will never die. With “artificial intelligence”, which is by the way, everything but not really intelligent…powerful yes, intelligent not yet. This “AI” has been built by human, coded with human minds and used to execute orders initially created by…humans.

And human in this new linked ecosystem would become a failure variable, built on emotions and intuitions, probably on the way to “planned death”. And in transportation and huge world of datas and decision making, human limits will soon be dangerous: unability to get global supervision, tired and too human centred…These intuition-and-emotion centric decision system will become really dangerous for global security indeed. And the main difficulty will take place in transition: mixing human emotions with binary and digital machines decisions will soon burn the bridge!

Let’s remember that the only failures in autonomous cars until now, have been caused by human mistakes…But how can we manage that transition? The only autonomous live solutions, are coached with real pilots (planes, trains, boats), and are reliable because there is a patented and experimented pilot on board, caring about the machine. The next switchover in the total digital era is then completely scary. A necessary transition phase is to be built, where automotive actors will rebuild their relation with their customer. It will reinvent the complete experience in which useful services will blossom to the next driver experience

Customer Relationship in Automotive sector

Until now, the simple “relation” is reduced and included in the…product, the car. We chose a car, a model, a brand, under ads pressure, loyalty or technical features. The whole combination of model + brand. After the sale, there is few relation but after sale and care relation. The customer is “in” the product every day, and the sole daily use, is enough to stand him, close to the brand. With no contact and no follow up. But automotive brands must keep an eye on their customers, beyond the sale and make sure they will be loyal, in the future.

Attention is then more and more on the “driver”, who will live in many transportation experiences, through his travels, alone or with passengers. It’s what we can call “the driver experience management”, a whole and complete ecosystem, with interactive and safe relations, easing the navigation and learning. While we go to the next big picture, the autonomous cars, human must give the power to machines, trust and let them drive safely. Each experience is unique, clever and is an opportunity to offer many services on board. Time to create the interactive assistant, kind of digital steward, who can guide you, give you advise and push services through “in the distance” services. A concrete way to raise value to consumer, from automotive brands, real time.

At what price and how?

Which services for that « personal assistant »?

What we see, is that new market is exponential. “Sky is the limit” could be a relevant quote to describe what we face in terms of potential services and revenues expectations. We found some figures about it, with Oliver Wyman consultant services here. Every actor, all along the value chain may win a part, playing its own skills with a potential use.

Autonomy_Wyman

All these services will grow perfectly, accuracy, security and easiness, for all tomorrow transportation ways. But beyond the service, connected cars will keep safe, insured and will call lots of partners in the gameplay. What we could list, at a glance could be:

  • Drive assistant help
  • Remote piloting, guiding
  • Virtual agent (screening communications, chats, audio, twits, text…)
  • Database navigation implement: weather, traffic, roads and ways, risks, easy travel guide…
  • Personal assistant / connected concierge flowing services like:
    • Leasure booking (restaurant, clubs, bars, hotels, fly, trips, trains, theatre, concerts,…)
    • Shopping: customized shopping, private sales, gifting services…
    • Babysitting, household, house caring, supermarket lists, fixing and emergency…
    • Dating, meeting and matching
    • Parking, shared car use, carpooling, shared travels …
  • Media et broadcasting: Television, VOD, news, ebooks, music, video games, audio books…
  • “Button” for:
    • Insurance help and emergency
    • Car fixing places and brand after sale
    • Automotive experts
    • Security (Police, Fire, Medical…)

Of course, we just started a reflection that is growing day to day and no doubt it will become an awesome subject for years to come. By starting a concrete future right now, services will organize themselves through ongoing demand from customers, who will starve for practical devices, services and assistance. As soon as they will grow and offer a “easy-to-use” experience, imagination will take place and invent new services. From freemium to added packages, the story is just beginning. How do actors will react and know to catch this tremendous trend, future will tell…

We just see that this is just the beginning for an orbit-shifting story, with a rare opportunity to speed up values, market and experience so far…

Only 20 years from now, WWW was a bulk disruption on how we live, consume, search, think and act. As cycles gear up, it may be the deepest change since…the birth of printing, the “renaissance” era, or more recently, industrialisation. The Internet has created new values, new debates, new democracies, new wealth, new scarcities, new information sharing and above all, a kind of new economy. And the story could stop, steadily hold a strange balance between users and infrastructures/sites builders. In fact, the sleepiness effect of this large revolution shows us, in a short term, the worst faces of Schumpeter’s doom of innovation. The best disruption effects mean to cut off any kind of intermediation, throwing away millions of jobs, and by the way, millions of lives. If WWW brings us, technology speaking, the best of information, education and equality in the world, that efficient technology erases more than it helps us, in the short term. Do many tasks for free, sharp and straight, instead on holding man assistance.
Oh.
You probably mean that machines and technology need more and more jobs to build them. True, but probably not the same profiles than the ones fired in this giganteous turnaround. Training and recovering another job? Too old, not flexible, not relevant could you be answered.

www

But over all, if we stare at the revenue sharing of that economy, we could see a scarce race of “winner take it all” actors, who share their revenue with stocks’ holder more than with you. Nothing else to take a look at GAFAM’s world to see the market cap is perfectly valued with the network and the content. Me. You. Everybody who posts something, someday. The whole value of these networks is nothing else than content, freely and daily published by you an me. Former days were journalists, photographers, editors, producers, distributors, who, in their way, were doing their part of the job, truly paied for that. Now that content is free, posted, twitted, re-twitted in seconds all around the world, who pays for that? Brands. But revenues never come to your pocket, but in the digital oligarchy’s one. Charming period where some “jobs” or tasks always exist, but now are unpaid. The Free economy is obviously interesting as a citizen or a consumer, but we are also employees or economic agent, driven to work to live. And that “freeness” may be our death idol. Is Internet really the answer?

HappyDisruption

It’s no doubt that the global balance between creation and destruction is far worst than we think. And there’s still no real “huge implementation” of #AI yet…Let’s figure out when many boring tasks will be realized by bots, coding minds, automatic processes like drive, care, produce, publish, deliver…Build bots? But when bots will build bots, what’s next?

This disruption fever may drive us to schizophrenic behavior, with a global rejection of progress, protecting us from…disablation. Switch on, swith off. Someday a robot will push the button for us, to unplug us. Bye. It’s no sense leading to such issue, wasting the best of technology for humankind economic survival. We’ll be “un-revealed”, in an “un” society: unstores, unusual, unhierarchic and holacratic world. Where winner-take-it-all pleases themselve, inventing a mirror world where fashion leads to an “un-anything”. This status is now so true than ever. Value is in the “un-face” of things to unfold deepest desires and hold privacy, scarcity and exclusive vision on things (and people). They know how to cope with it, and we pay it by our blindness and trustiness.

If GAFAM make a lot of money on contents they never create, why don’t they pay the real price for this new kind of (free) suppliers that are friends, members and so long? They push more free tools than ever, to slave us, collect data and make money wherever but our side. That’s the game it seems, hard game, sometimes and in the end, mortal one. Not funny in fact, and the worst is that few have this global awareness of it. We, as human give a lot of energy to dig our own economic grave.

Is it a whole sustainable situation, till when?

“Objects now become kind of chatterbox and the world shifts as an huge connected information system”

Yes we must now consider objects as a real part of social movement, even if social genuinely means « interaction between two human beings », they can enter the game of socialization…How far, when, for which uses/features? Future will tell…

2020: 20 Billions of connected objets; which ones, which services behind and for which uses? What might we face in organizations, skills, value chains and industries?

« We don’t GO on the WWW, we are IN the WWW » (J. de Rosnay, 2008). In this case we can’t ignore the new environment in which we’re living, wired, connected, localized, targeted…? What is our trigger of rejection or how far will we go, in including this obsessing world, that is up to us more and more.

That is to say with many questions to push ourselves in another world, framed with robots, domotics, and domestic suppliance, increasing interrogations about the destiny, goals and playing field. While complete digital revolution leads to many disasters in balanced industries, destroying employment in short term, what could bring more automation of flows, relations and process?

For the opportunistic point of view, it’s far from now, several huge enhancements to come, in a larger scale for domestic, economic and social matters. When coming to mass market, leading the wheel can be an astonishing venture in sectors like:

  • Tracing products, animals, reducing sanity risks and increasing the visibility on nurturing, growing in real time
  • Improvements on supply chains and « just in time », reducing stock wastes and better control
  • Equipment for handicapped people or old people, to enhance daily life with smart objects or function, and for health monitoring with things like flesh sensors (EES2) or with connected wifi body scale from Withings
  • Production improvement with robots like farming robots
  • Monitor, schedule and show the mass of available energies for a town, area or more, increasing the action on it and on the way we consume it: something making possible ups and downs and informing people when and how to use it (see an example with dontflushme)
  • Connected cities with huge projects involving simple objects with new roles and useful faces like intelligent pavements in Toulouse, France that supplies energy when you walk on them or ”Simplicity” project from Keiichi Matsuda (Domesti/City) and LivingPanIT, future tools for bright cities. Check also Songdo City in South Korea, aimed to welcome more than 75.000 citizens in 2014
  • Lifestyle environment: domestics, visual and personal comfort, intelligent paper with paperzoom, or fridges ordering themselves what’s relevant for the household’s needs, relating to stock or food desires. Taking in count the necessary monitoring of your weight, mood or health state
  • Self-domestic with « things » like green plants, furniture, design…), the silent communication (“utility” for house domestics, alone…)

While we see lots of interesting opportunities, we may consider the downsides and potential dangers that come with digital era, and could explode with the complete participation of connected objects, like :

  • Hacking: with the economic exploitation for the silent information war: stocks, financial system, gold and raw materials, everything that could trick valuation but also nuclear and military settlements connected in some ways could be hackable…
  • What about electronic polls and the ability to cheat and trick democracy?
  • Tomorrow, school and exam results may be built by machines, increasing the ability to exploit a fault in the whole chain and leading to discredit of levels and graduations?
  • How far build and trust open data: do we fight to show anything we can (see Pachube), a whole community lead site with usermoderation and the degree of trust that is questioned so far?
  • Automatic terminals that guide, manage and secure aerial traffic, train regulation and so long: who can we trust, relating to security matters?
  • Telco system with parallel ways (social networks) with lots of information publicly available everywhere, because no one can verify the sense, truth capital and relevance?

Very hard times in trying to imagine the different faces and practical aspects of this new behavior, allowing objects to be linked and part of the global conversation. From now, protocols have already shifted to new (with for example ipv6), to welcome and hold the huge growth of connections, increased by the participation of these smart objects…But as any physical people, we can see “reputation” and need of protection of digital identity. Some solutions like myID.is or myid.com will probably grow to guarantee the trustiness and truthfulness of exchanges and conversations. That means the identification must be on the object level and not necessary on the object’s owner level, who can change

We all already know that mobile devices and mobile behavior will be the dominant platform for datas, communication and entertainment tomorrow, then mobile web and connected objects will stand as  beacons of business in this incredible story.

There’s probably something attractive with everything seeming to be linked and connected. Just like losing our innocence, our ability to “think” and hold a sheer relation. When it’s about progress, one can be ready for anything to rock the boat…But how far? We’re still in the growth for “just” only fighting poverty and analphabetism and increasing digital uses may lead to writing mistakes and in the end, complete lack of knowledge about it! What about grammar, syntax, style effects that create a conversation and build a codified exchange between humans?

We so have to consider all these opportunities, integrating them into a whole ecosystem before they take control of us…Give rules, a place for everyone and everything, including interactive roles in our lives and dream about new “social networks for objects.” And then, pray that objects will invite us in their circle, where they will exchange datas, signals…conversations? A binary world from 0 to 1…

But who will be responsible for these shared contents or actions lead by the connected objects? Which legal matters: The owner? The user? The network?

In fact a subject not really new, that takes some time to land off but whose applications will help in many sectors with strong uses like breaking the digital rupture, domestics compliance and lots of local and practical innovations. Then « objects went social » could have been a HG Wells book. Shall we say « social » talking about objects when described as « media which enable interactivity between two or more humans »?

We live in a connected world, for sure. Even those who don’t want, won’t escape to changes, they feel, live or suffer. When, how, which ways? Where from, why? New generations can explain because they live in and are confronted to old school and traditional rules, they even sometimes, can’t understand. Codes, habits, rules…How imagine the world in such situations and understand the wealthy mix we can draw benefits from and hold the main direction to sustain the daily life?

I was thinking of writing in last centuries: from stones, to paper, wrting styles and ink, and printers…then digital writing and contents…Such situation meant slow shifts (as we stare technology revolutions go faster and faster), but we will be confronted in a future, where nobody will write anymore, one day…because of the huge invasion of digital supports, we won’t be using pens, stencils and so on, anymore…And at school, nobody will learn writing anymore, because “use” would have disappeared? It’s part of something that hurts me in fact…Living without knowing any letter or figure to write, because keypads or vocal systems would replace them…?

Weird, but not really far from reality…

I started a whole reflection with connectivity effects on “business”…with :

1) the ways it does…:

  • Competition insights, sourcing innovation, ideas or best practices?
  • The Impacts on collaboration and collaborative circles?
  • The way the world is connected and then, how to use marketplaces to reduce time, effort and delay on sourcing information?
  • Sourcing/buying 2.0?
  • Producing with benefits of connected technologies: reducing wastes, errors and returns, thriving simulations
  • Delivering: accuracy, reliance and relevance of supply chain
  • Launching and buzzing: hot to get the word before start…
  • Sales: virtual efficiency, mixed models of distribution (stores and e-business, m-business, social shopping and recommendation…

2) the effects on resources:

  • How to manage resources (people, time, schedules and machines) in a connected world?
  • HR implementation with social networks (pro and personal platforms, dealing with synergies)?
  • New opportunities on live work: always connected, live, home…

3) the outputs/outcomes driven:

  • Loyalty, but reactivity and sensibility: CRM, SRM, CEM…concepts that drive customers motivations and feedback
  • Communities, branding, e-reputation: how to solve the equation of truth and trust?
  • Marketing rules and new ways of improvement: who is the product manager, now?
  • Effects on life cycle of products, brands and relation: shortening delay without throwing the essential

I hope some bright ideas will surge and converge to identify a simple plan and path, to drive new business and companies, in this ocean of opportunities. As we accept opportunities more than threats and open our minds to change the cards and adapt enough our perception and abilities to do so…

First step to come, stay tuned for “the way it does”

It reminds me the pleasure when I read this famous book about “art of war”, according to Chinese philosophy, from Sun Tzu. This masterpiece became as famous as strategic gentles like Porter, Christensen, Chan/Mauborgne and so long, in the art of NOT making war in any case. I as thinking about some quotes and some parts remind me, as I’m surfing along, in the digital cage.

Yes like Tzu said, we have to spend some time to discover and share anything, on social networks, while there is any trust, in the fact that we often know our “friends”, only in virtual life. I know now, virtual life online is supplying more and more details about “friends” (sometimes too much I guess…), and I can think, there is still privacy.

I selected some quotes, that, in my opinion, show some unrevealed faces of social web.

  • “no war can be won in a static behavior”: whatever the position and your investment in the furious waves for web, with agreement or consciousless, you have to express yourself, give an idea of your digital welfare. Yin or Yang, but something. Move, but not too fast or too slow…
  • “war is a skill: no engage without all the reflexion that it needs”: guess everybody wants to make some noise, lot of noise, and make lots of friends on web (and/or life). But what for? give an idea of which goal you score, what aim you follow will make you more accurate and relevant in your expressions and sharing.
  • “…army will be close and team builded, happy for one goal…”: social networks and communities, can give opinion and pressure to lots of modern topics, peacefully of course…aimed in the same direction.
  • “bulk forget about death”: let’s see beyond first sight, to get the essence…death could mean “meaningless, excluded, apart” ; while networking and blogging, nobody cares about being apart, when rules and rites are clearly respected. Nobody wants to exclude no one.
  • “the general must create situations that lead to achievement”: when one launch a discussion or debate, that leads to result and building a collective enhancement.
  • “the masters in art of war, will lead without fight…and win”: know how lead a debate, without any opposition, leveraging each collaboration and answering to words sharing, that means wise behavior.
  • “know enemy and know you too”: guides you to a strong vision in your strengths and weaknesses, works for debate, identify your abilities and know how to withdraw.
  • “what depends on me, I can do it”: answer, send congratulations, thank people…all kind of shapes of participating and animation of debates and communities.
  • “respect laws (lords of war do)”: there are some behavior laws and rules to know. Listen, Stare and Engage. Not too fast…
  • “in art of war, there is no fixed rules. They can change, adapting to context…”: be flexible, but be kind and drive the discussion. No obvious idea, no prejudgment, feel free to be brought wherever you’ve maybe never been. It’s a principle of “bring and pick”, the essence of conversation.
  • “so, we just need few force to make lots of result ; like a rolling stone in a steep slope”: social media is viral, and there so much leverage in using it carefully.

I was really happy to read and consult this book of good sense and harmony quest, by the old gestures of wisdom. Guess, if you’re patient enough, there’s a lot of wisdom to care and get in socializing web and media. That’s why we need each other to complete our facing challenges and interrogations. Gear up collaboration, collaborative rooms and friendness, and let’s use the web as it is: a big disruptive tool reducing the fence, recovering harmony in relations.

I could stay hours facing the sea, shores, come and go movement of waves, like and endless cure, vision of what is, was and will. A genuine force of nature, that can bring us new things : ressources, ideas, vision ; making up our mind, throwing away bad thoughts, changing what we always consider as foundings. The advantage of being “intelligence-oriented”, brain built, taking the lead on our animal instincts. The advantage of making the web real and alive.

Years ago, I stared vibrations as a mathematic concept, analyzing waves, circles and theories, between, causes, effects, between forces and energies. I was surprised and full of doubt (considering specially chaos theory, where nothing can be planned, in a kind of organisation…a strange kind we say), stepping from circles, formulas and graphs to vibrations and waves.

I was not be able yet to make some link effects, or reliable cause, with human vibrations and social networks no the web. But this time, I’m sure there is something around, that guide us in our social web relations, in the shape, style or result, but invisible in the way we use it: I can call it, intuition; feelings.

This can lead us to vibrate in the same frequency, appreciate the same things, sharing the same projects, lifes of whatever. I would call it: the flow

But in the contrary, we are rich of differences, we can vibrate in contrary movements, frequencies, making the common building in stability. I would call it: the ebb tide

And what about social media ?
Yes, you probably found out what I liked to draw, exploring these aims. Get your kicks, on the road – not 66 this time 😉 -, but on the tracks to social publishing. And see what became of these natural features: spreading your knowledge, publish, post, give water and feed to whole world. This is the first movement of endless dance, the flow…Then, get your ears and eyes wide opened, and prepare to read, stare, listen…aware to accurate comments, advises and starting to vibre at the same frequency. You brought something to common buildings, you added a stone, gave the tune. Well, you saw the ebb in function…
Flow doesn’t work without ebb: flow gives you the necessary kick to move, to think, to act, probably some ideas, and…friends ? And ebb can withdraw the black face, mistakes, and give you a new shap, a new state of mind, by getting the best from others. A fountain of new youthful, an endless chance of learning anything, from anybody; what can be more interesting, more hopeful than this ?

Now there are times for sustainable visions, in economics, ecology and social awareness ; but there are still miles from social media wealth to be understood in corporations, like a real new leverage way, to several conquests: motivation, promotion, innovation and brand new power revival, that’s the way to go, to recreate the next turning wheel, that can lead bulk to reborn: new fields of consumering, sharing, and partnership. The weapon is no longer dangerous but powerful, provided by people good sense, there’s nothing to do but listen how the wind blows, and last (but not least) reference, how the tide can provide it.

Vibrations, waves and relation make the world goes round. A kind of new energy we can’t waste – regarding classical energies vanishing more and more, or going more expensive -, a new kind of green, free, friendship energy. The next graal conquest ?

In 1989, I was aware about the last issue of Sting’s art, because he had for a long time haunted my days and nights, when he was the leading icon of the Police, my favourite band for years. Several times, I saw myself playing with him, in an invisible scene, maybe in some kind of twilight zone…

For his first solo LP, he succeed to join with several tough guys of Jazz, who didn’t need any time to be presented, by the fact that they all were stars in theirs own art. It was a real impression of breaking all he built, and having some courage to start again, as probably the junior, in the middle of such stars. It was what he called “the blue turtles”, which gave him trouble with his secret garden, and made it possible. In this LP, all songs were obviously great (according to my own opinion, I agree…), and there was one which was called “love is the seventh wave”. A former tribute to love, obviously…

Waves are such amazing things ; electronic waves, yes indeed, but sea waves  more so. And there is a legend in the surfing fields, which is all about that the seventh wave is always the strongest…pushing our limits and giving new kind of hope. Prisoners who would have in history, to escape from an island and use the sea, know it. They sometimes have to wait the seventh wave to push them out of the limits of wave return, making them step beyond.

Maybe web2.0 and all environment surrounding is similar ; before we had a magnificent tool, but only tool, professional one, with search, mining information and digging the truth, email exchanges and so long. But nothing to be really such foolish about and many people have at this time, stare away their attention elsewhere, finding nothing else than sometimes, boring situations.

Then web2.0, a generic name for tech and social environment, entered the dance, as a kick in our uses, as if an invisible wave, more powerful, more clever, more lighted stuff, to bring us new strength and rearing the limits. People just had to live with, learn, and look around, to see others, in a Darwin reflex, adapt itself to new uses and states. First surprised, then breathless. Maybe this wave was unbelievable, maybe there was no captain to see it explode. Anyway, it’s there, part of new digital lives, digital uses. And brings us new digital power, we can’t see limits yet (and that’s better so…). See how it evolves each day, on such collaborative work and open source effects, see the extraordinary power and how it spreads its wings on people doom. Nothing will ever be the same, by the fact that we can’t remember how it was before, blinded by progress sparkles.

This wave became these waves. Managed by several accidents of fortune and destiny, opportunities for speaks, talks and wuthering winds, brought by different aknowledgements, it became a daily sport, without any effort, a kind of social behavior, meeting opportunities, crossroads for opinions and affordable links. Two ways, interactive, exploding the limits, in a new big bang, digital revolution, multiorigin breakdown, giving devices and power from fewer people to powerful corps. No ones remembers how it was, and even if so,  found it so far from nowadays skills. Like sea world isn’t it ? Don’t you feel the power of the seventh digital wave, web 2.0 one ? This one, which bring us far, far from any kind of possible return…

Maybe next generations will live in oceans (don’t forget our desperate doom with mother nature and the warmer situation which drives ice to vanish…), but maybe there will be an aim too : find sea waves and merge them with electronic ones, in a same trance, a social vibration…
